Etiquette and Club Rules

Our Code of Conduct
The Epic Etiquette

Good Sportsmanship

Embrace good sportsmanship above all. While we all cherish the game, let's remember it's just that—a game. Treat every player with respect and kindness.

Acknowledgment

Kick off each game with a friendly acknowledgment of your fellow players. If you're unfamiliar with someone, take a moment to introduce yourself. And if you do know them, a simple greeting goes a long way.

Fairness & Honesty

When the ball lands "out" on your side, call it out. When in doubt, give your opponent the benefit of the doubt. It's a gesture of fairness that makes the game more enjoyable for everyone.

If you or your partner steps into the kitchen during a volley, be sure to call it. Let's be mindful about calling faults, especially since our eyesight might not be as sharp as it used to be.

Respectful Spectating

Spectators are part of the fun, but let's keep their comments positive and supportive. Loud, disruptive, or argumentative remarks only detract from the game's spirit.

Kindness & Inclusivity

Let's promote inclusivity on the court. Players of different skill levels bring unique perspectives to the game. While advanced players seek competitive challenges, it's essential to welcome and support players of all levels during drop-in sessions.

Lift Others Up

Helping less experienced players improve is a rewarding experience. Whether you're playing against a stronger opponent or adjusting your game to accommodate beginners, fostering a positive learning environment benefits everyone involved. Remember to share positive feedback and encouragement after each game, and always respect each other's physical limitations.

Tips When Mixing Skill Levels...

  • If you are playing against a team where there is a significantly stronger player, chose them to be your opponent- you may learn something!

  • If you are the strongest player of the foursome, play to the weakest players in a way they can handle the shot and learn.  Even ask people what they are working on (drop shots, lobs, etc.). If they tell you, hit them shots they can use to work on those things.

  • At the end of each game, find something positive to say to the other team at the net. “Nice game” isn’t always appropriate if you have won 11-0.  Find something encouraging to say instead, “Thanks for playing with us!” is nice. But never leave a game without acknowledging the other team.

  • And finally, don’t take advantage of a person’s physical limitations when you play them socially. You won’t learn anything by doing it, and winning like that won't feel good.

DROP-IN PLAY ETIQUETTE

Play With Everyone!

Drop-in play is all about camaraderie and fun. Regardless of skill level, let's embrace good sportsmanship and enjoy the game together.

Share the Courts

When the courts are full, players waiting for a game kindly place their paddles along the fence to signal their turn. Let's avoid hovering with paddles in hand and respect the waiting system.

  • After finishing a game, promptly exit the court if there are waiting players. This ensures everyone gets a chance to play without unnecessary delays.

  • If there are paddles waiting, consider inviting the waiting players to join in, even if other courts are available. Mixing in ensures everyone gets a chance to play and learn together.

Be Courteous While Others are Playing

Be mindful when crossing active courts. Wait for the current point to finish and ask for permission before crossing. Let's ensure safety and courtesy on the courts.

Don't Have to Visit the Lost & Found

Be sure to keep track of your things while mixing around on different courts.  It's a good idea to label your paddle with your name. Not only does it help prevent paddle mix-ups, but it also ensures you can be contacted if you accidentally leave it behind.

PICKLEBALL SAFETY TIPS

Safety Over Winning

Prioritize safety over winning. If you're about to hit a shot that might endanger your partner or opponent, stop play and let the ball drop. Their safety is more important than winning a point.

"Ball On!"

Stay alert and communicate. If a ball flies into another court, immediately alert everyone by yelling "Ball On Court!" Avoid chasing the ball onto another court to prevent accidents. Safety always comes first.

Take Breaks

Listen to your body. Don't push yourself beyond your physical limits. Overplaying can lead to injuries, so know when to take a break and rest.

Stay Hydrated!

Stay hydrated. Drink water regularly, even before you feel thirsty, to prevent dehydration and maintain peak performance. If you forget yours, we have grab and go food and drinks on hand.

Get a Good Stretch

Take care of your muscles. Remember to stretch before and after playing to prevent injuries and improve flexibility. It's a simple but essential practice for your overall well-being.

Keep an Eye on Each other

Look out for each other. If you notice a fellow player showing signs of dizziness or fatigue, keep an eye on them and suggest taking a break or time out if needed. It's important to prioritize everyone's health and safety on the court.
